After many years it was really time for a visit in Hamburg. I really missed it, which I only realized, when I came there.
I love St.Pauli district, the harbour views that you have from the old housing area on the high ground above the river. A friend recommended a hotel on Bernhard Nocht Street. Kogge hotel is specialized on musicians and bands, it is basically a noisy and busy pub with some rooms on the first floor. The pub closes around 04.00 a.m. on weekdays and 06.00 a.m. on weekends. Don’t expect coffee or breakfast before 10.00 a.m.!
Around the corner from there is the red light district on Reeperbahn and on the way from the subway to the hotel you have to deal with many offers from the queens of the night.
But on the other side there are the steps down to Fischmarkt and Landungsbruecken and the view over the docks.
I spent the days walking the new Hafencity, the old St.Pauli district and the city district towards the warehouses of Speicherstadt.
The Chile house, one of the most iconic buildings in Hamburg. Many take pictures of the shiplike edge of this brick built house. For the first time I went inside, which is really worth a glimpse. If you ever have the opportunity, take a look at the staircases and the beautifull details of the interiors.
